Since its establishment in 2006, The California Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and honors California’s greatest sports figures and leverages this collective celebrity to promote fitness awareness, education and sports activities among our state’s youth and adults. Equally important is the promotion of the qualities of discipline and honor among sports participants.
SELECTION PROCESS: The annual inductees are notified. If the winning nominees accept their induction, they must attend the gala inductee dinner and celebration to be officially inducted into the CSHOF. If a nominee rejects or is unable to attend their induction, another selection may be made. The goal is a minimum of five (5) and up to eight (8) inductees annually. Nominations of potential candidates are accepted from the Advisory Committee and current Hall of Fame members. After a vetting process, eligible and qualified candidates are voted on by an electorate that includes the organization’s Founder and Advisory Committee.
CRITERIA: The qualification for nomination for induction to the CSHOF is to have had an impact in professional sports in California while playing, coaching, writing, Sports Medicine or announcing sports for any school, team, or sports media company in California.
To be eligible, the CSHOF candidates must have been born in the state of California, have significant state ties, or spent a substantial part of their amateur or professional athletic careers in the state.
Induction into the CSHOF is the equivalent of a lifetime achievement award. Honorees have typically spent decades in the sports industry; they have been leaders in the industry; and they have an extensive list of accomplishments.
